The Huron Shores Hospice Steering Committee has been meeting for several years to bring a residential hospice to the residents of south Bruce County. A residential hospice will provide a home-like setting where adults and children with life-limiting illnesses receive end-of-life care.  Huron Shores Hospice will empower individuals to live well to the end of life by providing compassionate, dignified and holistic care, while supporting their family members and friends

We have the support of our local physicians, elected representatives, service providers, and many of our large employers, as well as many residents who have pledged donations and offered their assistance. The committee has incorporated as a not-for-profit,  and has received its CRA charitable number, selected Tiverton Park Manor as our co-location partner for an initial one-bed suite, kicked-off its fundraising campaign, Hearts for Hospice, with Duncan Hawthorne as our honorary chair, held our first successful fundraiser Hike for Hospice and begun plans for the next event, Handbags for Hospice on September 28th.

Community support is essential to our plan because funding from the government will only provide, under the current process, about one-third of the cost to run the hospice. The remaining two-thirds must be raised through fundraising and memorial donations.  We realize this is a big ask of our community. But we also believe that everyone has the right to die with dignity, in a home-like setting, surrounded by compassion:  we see residential hospice as the best way to deliver this service.

To empower individuals to live well during their end-of-life journey by providing compassionate, dignified and holistic care in a comfortable home-like setting, while supporting and sharing the journey with family members.

We believe an integrated system of care delivered by an interdisciplinary team of health and social service professionals, supported by volunteers, will provide patents of south Bruce County the best end-of-life health care options.

The core values that will guide our decisions and actions are compassion, dignity, collaboration, accountability, excellence, and respect for diversity.
