As the year comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the profound sense of home we strive to create at Huron Shores Hospice and how our supportive community makes this all possible.
Since 2018, 160 guests and their families found comfort, compassion, and peace within our walls. This isn’t simply a place—it’s a home, a sanctuary built on the connections and warmth of our community. Every individual who passes through leaves an indelible mark, reminding us of our purpose: to offer dignity, comfort, and love to those in their final days.
This mission became especially personal for me this year, as my own mother spent her final days with us here, surrounded by family and simple, cherished moments. Thanks to the compassionate care of our dedicated staff, I was able to be fully present as a daughter—holding her hand, flipping through photo albums with her, sharing ice cream cones, and watching favourite shows side by side. Family was always close by, able to rest and be together in comfort.
These are moments that could only happen in the intimate, home-like setting of Huron Shores Hospice, where every effort is made to recreate the comforts of home during life’s most challenging times.
Our commitment to creating this environment extends beyond our guests; we are dedicated to supporting the physical and emotional well-being of their families, friends, and the broader community. We are expanding our bereavement services to support more individuals both at the end of life and after the loss of a loved one, ensuring no one has to face this journey alone.
This year, as we launch our annual holiday campaign, we ask you to make a donation to help us support more individuals in our community who are at end-of life. Our campaign theme — “Home is more than just a place; it’s a feeling created through care, compassion, and connection” — reflects our belief that Huron Shores Hospice is a sanctuary of warmth and solace, both for those in our care and their families.
Your donation helps us help them. Each donation you provide helps us provide the compassionate, home-like experience that families like mine and the Peevers have found so meaningful.
Thank you for being part of our community and helping us continue to
offer peace, dignity, and home to those in need by supporting this campaign.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Cathy Herbert

This Giving Tuesday, you can help us continue to provide this vital care.
Giving Tuesday is a global day of generosity, and this year, we invite you to join us in supporting Huron Shores Hospice. Your contribution will help us continue offering compassionate care to those at the end of life, ensuring that we can provide comfort and dignity during their final days.
Whether you choose to donate, volunteer, or spread the word, your support makes a difference. Together, we can ensure that individuals facing end of life in our community receive the care, compassion, and connection they deserve.
At the end of life, everyone deserves to feel at home, receiving the same care, beauty, and respect they did at life’s beginning.
