As we settle into winter here in Tiverton, it’s hard not to marvel at the beauty of the snow blanketing our community. Even with the extra shoveling and icy sidewalks, there’s something cozy about this season that invites us to pause and reflect.
This past year was one of deep connection and remarkable support. We had the privilege of serving so many incredible guests and their families, and with your help, we were able to provide comfort, care, and compassion when it was needed most. Whether through the generosity of our donors, the dedication of our volunteers, or the continued belief in our mission from so many in the community, we have been able to make a real difference in the lives of those we serve.
In this newsletter, we’re excited to preview some of the initiatives we have in store for 2025, as well as highlight new ways to get involved and support our mission.

As we look ahead to 2025, we are reminded that the foundation of our care has always been rooted in the voices of those we serve - and that includes you. We believe that the best care comes from listening closely to our community, and your perspective is invaluable to us.
This year, we’re working towards updating our Strategic Plan, and we want your input to help guide our future. Please take a few minutes to complete our Community Survey. Thanks to the generous support of Ontario Power Generation and their Community Investment Grant, we’re excited to offer free End-of-Life Planning Workshops across the region. These workshops are designed to give you the knowledge and tools you need to plan confidently, whether you're preparing for yourself or supporting a loved one.

Grief is a deeply personal journey, but you don’t have to walk it alone. In the year ahead, Huron Shores Hospice will be offering two supportive grief programs to help you navigate your grief and find healing at your own pace. Whether you prefer a structured, action-based approach or a more informal space to connect, we have something for everyone.
Grief Recovery Method: A Structured 8-Week Program
The Grief Recovery Method is an 8-week structured program designed to help individuals process emotional loss and move toward healing. Led by trained and certified specialists, this course provides an action-based approach, offering practical tools to address unresolved emotions, regrets, and unfinished business.
What to Expect: Learn actionable steps to address unfinished business, tackle regrets, and process unresolved emotions.
Flexible Delivery Options: Choose from group sessions, one-on-one sessions, or online programs.
Let’s Talk About Grief: Drop-In Support Groups
If you're looking for a more informal, flexible way to connect with others who understand your grief, our Let’s Talk About Grief drop-in support groups are here for you. These groups provide a safe and welcoming space to talk, share, and find solace with others who are also navigating loss.
What to Expect: A supportive, judgment-free environment to listen, connect, and find comfort among those who understand.
No Registration Required: Just drop in and share as you feel comfortable. While registration is appreciated, it’s not necessary.
Whatever path you choose, we’re here to support you every step of the way. In the coming year, we’ll be running both Grief Recovery Method and Let’s Talk About Grief sessions, giving you multiple options to find the support that works best for you.

Save the Date: The 9th Annual Hike for Hospice
We are so excited to welcome our community to come together once again at the Davidson Centre for our 9th Annual Hike for Hospice! This event is one of our most special moments of the year, where we celebrate compassionate care while supporting our 2-bed hospice and community programs. 100% of the funds raised stay in our community, directly supporting end-of-life care and grief recovery services for those in need.

Join us at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine to raise funds and rally together for compassionate end-of-life care. Get ready for an unforgettable evening at Handbags for Hospice, our 9th Annual fundraiser and the largest and most anticipated event of the year for Huron Shores Hospice!

This extraordinary evening of empowerment, philanthropy, and fun will feature vibrant live and silent auctions, offering a stunning collection of designer handbags, luxurious experiences, exciting getaways, and an exclusive wine wall.
Join us as we unite our community to celebrate the "Power of the Purse" and raise funds for compassionate end-of-life care. This beloved tradition is one of our favourite moments of the year, filled with camaraderie, laughter, and the joy of making a difference together.

Host Your Own Fundraiser!
We’re incredibly grateful for the support of our signature events, Hike for Hospice and Handbags for Hospice. But we’re also deeply moved by individuals in our community who host their own fundraisers to support Huron Shores Hospice. One inspiring example is Joel Van Geest, owner of VG Renovations, who showed how a birthday can be about so much more than cake and candles.
This year, Joel decided to turn his birthday into a celebration of compassion by hosting a Facebook fundraiser. Instead of asking for gifts, he invited his friends and family to support a cause that had a profound impact on him. Joel shared how hospice staff went above and beyond to care for his uncle and the entire family during a challenging time, and that care inspired him to give back.
Through his birthday fundraiser, Joel raised $650 and generously matched all donations. But his support didn’t end there—he’s been a dedicated supporter of our Christmas campaign and other fundraising efforts for the past six years.
