"As a lifelong Tiverton resident, it’s incredibly rewarding to provide end-of-life care to the members of our community. Having lived here for over 50 years, I often have the privilege of knowing some of the guests and their families who come through the doors of Huron Shores Hospice. This connection makes the work we do here even more meaningful.
Many of our guests transition to hospice from an acute care setting or their private homes. When they arrive, we often see an immediate sense of relief and peace on their faces—and on the faces of their loved ones. Many guests often share that they wish they had made the transition sooner.
Once in hospice, family and friends can focus on their role of being the guest’s loved ones, while our staff and volunteers focus on the guest’s care. We provide compassionate, 24/7 support, ensuring our guests receive continuous comfort, day and night.
But in hospice, we offer more than just physical care—we provide dignity, peace, and connection during some of life’s most tender moments. Our team goes above and beyond to ensure that every guest feels cared for and at ease. Whether it’s singing to them, sharing stories, offering treats like ice cream, or taking them outside for fresh air, we strive to create a sense of home.
Our volunteers are so valuable in creating that comforting atmosphere. They personalize each guest’s space with meaningful touches—family photos, keepsakes, and even visits from their pets. Favourite television shows or music can be heard playing softly in the background, creating a familiar and soothing environment.
Family and friends are always welcome, and it's common to see large groups of loved ones gathering to celebrate milestones, share meaningful moments, or simply spend quality time together, staying for as long as they need. It’s truly heartwarming to see children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren visiting with our guests. These moments create lasting memories, as family comes together to share their final moments with loved ones.
It’s an honour and privilege to care for our local residents and their families during these deeply meaningful times. The work we do at Huron Shores Hospice is not just about providing care; it’s about making a difference in the lives of those who need it most."
